Concrete is a strong and impervious surface that has numerous applications in residential and commercial projects. It is viewed as a safe, strong and durable building material that supports countless communities all over the world. It is an important and widely used building product, and it’s easy to see why it’s so popular. It’s readily available, is quick to install, easy to work with, can cover large areas quickly and is available in a range of designs, effects and surface treatments. Concreting may initially seem expensive, but given the long-lasting and durable nature of concrete, works out as a great investment over the long term.
What uses does concrete have?
Concrete is an extremely useful substance, and can be used in many ways:
- Building slabs
- Foundations
- Driveways
- Paths
- Garden beds
- Paving
- Retaining walls
- Garden features
- Swimming pools
What does the concreting process involve?
Some excavation and preparation work will need to be done before laying the concrete surface. The mixing process (called batching) involves mixing the concrete materials (including cement, sand, water and aggregates) thoroughly in the required proportions to form a paste. The concrete will then be poured into the formwork (timber shaping the area to be concreted). It will be levelled to create a perfectly flat surface and cured to finish off the process.
How much do you charge for concreting?
No two concreting jobs are the same, so an accurate quote can only be provided once details of the project are made known. The cost of your concreting project will vary depending on:
- The extent and scope of the project
- The type of construction required
- The site access
- The amount of excess and levelling your site will require
- The amount of drainage that needs to be installed
- The type of materials used in the project (you will pay more for coloured concrete, or concrete containing aggregates, than plain concrete)
